CBD is a chemical found in marijuana, and it doesn’t have THC, a compound that produces a high. The common CBD formulation is oil, but it is also sold in other formulations like an extract, a vaporized liquid and in oil-based capsules. Many companies are also coming up with CBD infused food products such as CBD infused beverages and drinks.
Currently, the FDA has only approved one CBD product called Epidolex, which is effective in treating two types of epilepsy. While the effects of CBD for various diseases are being studied, the use of CBD products is soaring high.
The use of CBD products carries a certain risk because the research supporting its benefits is still limited. The common CBD side-effects are nausea, loss of appetite, drowsiness, and fatigue. Another cause of concern is due to the lack of regulation, which indicates no reliability of the purity of the CBD products. A recent study conducted on 84 CBD products found that more than one-fourth of the products contained less CBD than required and labeled. Additionally, THC was also found in more than 18 products.
Using CBD can offer many health benefits, but it is important to check the purity levels of the CBD products before buying and using them.
